How Our D&D&History Classes Work
Our Dungeons & Dragons & History teaching model is like no class you’ve taken before!
We begin by designing imaginary characters, and then entering the historical narrative, which changes each semester. (Previous settings have included the Great Molasses Flood of 1919, the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, Henry Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery of 1776, and the Battle of Blair Mountain of 1921, to name a few.)
Once the characters are in the historical setting, Explore with Juliana weaves in threads of fantasy, while teaching the real-world history; dragons in the coal fields, ice giants freezing the molasses tank, sea monsters under the ice of Lake George.
Students are assigned optional homework about the real history, the cultural significance of the setting, and daily life during that historical period.
