Explore D&D&History: Forbidden Brews (Section A - ages 12+)
Embark on an epic journey with this campaign, which weaves together history and adventure. The party will dive into the heart of Prohibition-era America, complete with bootleggers, speakeasies, and subterfuge!
In a dingy New York City of 1925, orcs and trolls rub shoulders with elves and men, while overhead, dragons scrape the bottoms of soot-filled clouds. Prohibition is still in full swing, which means the only folks who profit are those with nothing left to lose.
A train pulls into Central Station. Boxes are unloaded quickly, carefully, ever-so-sneakily by a team of workers. They mutter indistinct spells and prayers under their breath, trying to encourage the fog to continue to shroud their labors.
From the near distance, a flash of radium-green light streaks towards them, knocking them all unconscious. When they awaken a few hours later, the train and its precious, paycheck-making cargo have vanished, and the team has no idea who, or what, they are. All that remains is a map to Canada, with a handwritten note in each one’s pocket; “work together. Get the goods. Bring them here. Ask no one.”
Who will they be? What goods? Why can’t they ask for help?

Academic Fine-Print for Grownups:Students in this class will make imaginary characters that are based in New York City in 1925. They will defeat poisoners, rival gangs, and moonshiners, all while fulfilling their mission.
Students will be immersed in real-world history via a fictional, fantastical narrative. Optional homework about the time period and the historical culture will be assigned, and they can gain credit in the game for completing it. Students will gain insight into the history and culture of the time period, as well as teamwork, improvisation, and math skills.

Section A: Ages 12+ will meet on Monday from 4-6pm EST, and will run from Monday, January 13, 2025 through Monday, March 3, 2025. All 8 classes will be held over Zoom.
Requirements: Age 12+, or at the instructor's discretion. No prior knowledge or experience of Dungeons and Dragons is required, as instructions for creating a character will be sent ahead of time. Students will be given access to an online dice roller, so physical dice are not required.
Class Etiquette: I expect and require gentle, respectful language in my classes, and ask that all students come to class prepared to treat each other with kindness. These classes are a great opportunity for your kiddos to practice social/soft skills, with the underlying perspective that we’re all in this together.
